Tim is a life-long artist with over twenty years as an ocularist. He brings that eye for color and detail to every prosthesis he makes.
My education began at Samford University in Birmingham, AL, and as an undergraduate I studied abroad in London and Belize. After completing my training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I worked throughout the Southeast with practices owned by the Cox family, including:
Later in my career, my work took me across the country, making eyes for patients from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to the southern tip of Florida. I have nearly 20 years of experience as an ocularist.
GB Ocular Prosthetics will provide our patents with quality ocular prosthetic service. We specialize in the fabricating and fitting of custom-made ocular prosthetics (artificial eyes). We recognize the need of every patient and are guided by our commitment towards precision, natural beauty, and excellence.
People still call them glass eyes, but today's custom eyes are made from medical-grade acrylic, which is lighter and safer. Most take a few visits. We usually see patients 6 to 8 weeks after surgery, to give the socket time to heal.
We look at your socket, your current eye (if you have one) and the health of your other eye. Then we talk about your goals.
A soft, cool gel is placed in the socket to record its exact shape. It's painless and sets in about a minute.
A wax model is sculpted from the impression and is adjusted as needed during the fitting process.

Tim hand-paints your iris while looking at your other eye, matching color, texture and detail. Tiny veins are added to the white to match too.

Your finished eye is polished to a smooth, glossy finish and fitted. We make any final adjustments and teach you how to remove, insert and care for it.

Your first follow-up is usually at 6 months, to make sure it has settled in comfortably. After that, regular polishing visits keep it comfortable. Regular polishing lets your ocularist remove buildup on the acrylic, which helps prevent socket irritation and possible infection.
